Gateway Open Space Park and Wells Street Trail Environmental Work Day!

Colonial Canopy Trees invites AXA Global Day of Giving participants and other interested volunteers to join us for a day of planting native trees and helping to restore a local woodland area. Stay for as long as you want!

Mathers Mill Riparian Restoration!
Thursday, June 8 – 9AM – 12PM
In 2021, we began restoring a Whitemarsh Township-owned piece of land on Mathers Lane to a native riparian forest and meadow. We will be working with our friends from Amerisource Bergen to plant a few new trees and remove invasives like bamboo and mugwort! Please join us for this final event of the spring 2023 season.

Bicentennial Park Planting & Workday!
Friday, May 26 – 9:00AM – 3pm
We’ll be working with volunteers from GlaxoSmithKline for one of their Orange Days, but everyone is able to join in. Stay as long as you’d like! We’ll be planting trees, removing invasives, and caring for previously-planted trees!

Wissahickon Valley Park – Carpenter Run Restoration with WRV!
Sunday, May 21 – 9:30AM – 12pm
In collaboration with the Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers (WRV), we will be planting native trees and shrubs to help restore an area within Wissahickon Valley Park! This is our first event in the Wissahickon, and we’re excited to get out there.

Valley Green Park Tree Planting!
Saturday, May 20 from 9:30am – 12pm
In 2020, we began adding to the native tree canopy at Valley Green Park in Whitemarsh township. We will continue our work by planting more native trees including a white oak!

Pollinator Garden at Black Horse Park!
Sunday, May 7 from 9:30am – 12pm
With generous funding from the PA Native Plant Society, and in collaboration with the Plymouth Township Environmental Advisory Board, we will be installing a pollinator garden at Black Horse Park in Plymouth Township! We’ll be planting over 100 plugs of 11 native herbaceous perennial species including milkweeds, goldenrods and asters!

Whitemarsh Township Arbor Day Event!
Saturday, May 6 – 9:30am – 12pm
We apologize – because of the impending rain storm on Saturday, April 29th, we are rescheduling this event until next Saturday May 6th!
In collaboration with the Whitemarsh Township Shade Tree Commission, we will be planting more native trees at Miles Park! We’ll be adding to our oak grove and more.

Fort Washington State Park Reforestation
Sunday, April 30 from 9:30am – 12:30pm
Through a PA DCNR grant, Colonial Canopy Trees is working with the Friends of Fort Washington State Park and the state park rangers to restore a quarter of an acre of mowed lawn back to ecologically-valuable native forest.

East Plymouth Valley Park Tree Planting!
Sunday, April 23 from 9:30am- 12pm
We are planting 10 native trees to help expand the park’s canopy coverage and improve our riparian buffers. This park is built in lowlands, and there were a lot of ash trees that died from the emerald ash borer. The park is in need of some restoration!

Evangel Church Tree Planting!
Saturday, April 22 from 9am – 11:30am at Evangel Church (810 E Marshall St, Norristown, PA 19401)
We will be planting 7 new native trees at Evangel Church in Norristown to help address tree inequities. We are working with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society on this project.

Tree Planting @ Harriet Wetherill Park
Friday, April 21 from 9:30am – 12pm at Harriet Wetherill Park (2640 Butler Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462)
We will be planting 7 trees, removing some invasives, and providing care to trees we planted last year at HWP in Plymouth Meeting.

Harriet Wetherill Park Forest Restoration
Saturday, April 8 from 9:30am – 12pm at Harriet Wetherill Park (2642 Butler Pike, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462)
We will be planting native trees to and removing invasive species in an old section of forest. Park in the parking lot off of Butler Pike.
